SENATE BILL 472 (ALQUIST – 1973)

As enacted Senate Bill 472 amended sections 1162, 1163, 1164, and 1165 of and added section 1162.5 to the Education Code.  (See Exhibit A, #1e)  Senator Alequist introduced the bill on March 19, 1973.  (See Exhibit A, #1a)

Senate Bill 472 was assigned to the Senate Committee on Education and the Assembly Committee on Education where policy issues raised by the bill were considered.  (See Exhibit A, #3 and #5)  Two amendments were made to Senate Bill 472.  (See Exhibit A, #1b, #1c and #2)  Subsequent to legislative approval, Governor Ronald Reagan signed Senate Bill 472 on September 4, 1973, and it was recorded by the Secretary of State as Chapter 364 of the Statutes of 1973.  (See Exhibit A, #1e and #2)

The Enrolled Bill Memorandum to Governor provides the following digest of Senate Bill 472:

SB 472 makes substantial revisions in the Education Code provisions providing for the filing of vacancies on school governing boards.
