LIS News and Notes

February 1, 2010

Some bill research does not include the Governor's file because at the time we researched the bill, the sitting Governor had not released his chaptered bill file. If the Governor's file is not included with this particular research, please contact our office (1-530-666-1917 or quote@legintent.com) and we will be happy to provide this file at no charge if it is available. Please Note: Governor files did not exist prior to 1943.

Polling for Answers:  The Public Policy Institute of California’s nonpartisan poll recently sought responses from Californians about their state government and 2010.  While 75% indicated the state’s budget fallout is a "big problem," and 74% thought California was headed in the "wrong direction," the large majority of responders wanted funding protected for K-12 education and funding cut for prisons.  Unfortunately, the poll also revealed that Californians have misconceptions about how their state government spends their tax dollars, with almost half of those surveyed not knowing that California’s 2009-10 Budget provides for $35 billion for K-12 education, $25 billion for health and human services, $10.5 billion for higher education, and $8.2 billion for corrections.
