Yes We Scan!

Some bill research does not include the Governor's file because at the time we researched the bill, the sitting Governor had not released his chaptered bill file. If the Governor's file is not included with this particular research, please contact our office (1-530-666-1917 or quote@legintent.com) and we will be happy to provide this file at no charge if it is available. Please Note: Governor files did not exist prior to 1943.

Collecting approximately 8.3 million pages of legislative history took LIS nearly 40 years, but, thankfully, it will not take us as long to scan these materials for everyone’s easy electronic access. From convenience to going green, there were all sorts of great reasons for us to begin this long process in 2002.

From the beginning, we have developed specialized protocols for scanning and profiling the legislative documents in our collection.  For these past ten years, we have been working in-house, relying on two large scanning machines and the energetic services of our enthusiastic scanning staff (pictured below), to create a vast internal database of state and federal legislation and regulations.  From this database, we are able to populate our online store with previously-compiled legislative histories, which currently has approximately 14,000 state bills available for quick purchase.

Now, we are down to approximately 1.3 million pages left to scan and profile!  Of course, we always have requests for new research, so we will never really be done with this part of our digitization phase, but it’s nice for us at LIS to be able to see over the top of our great pile ‘o papers!
