Legislative Intent Service, Inc. News & Notes

Some bill research does not include the Governor's file because at the time we researched the bill, the sitting Governor had not released his chaptered bill file. If the Governor's file is not included with this particular research, please contact our office (1-530-666-1917 or quote@legintent.com) and we will be happy to provide this file at no charge if it is available. Please Note: Governor files did not exist prior to 1943.

 LIS NEWS AND NOTES

California State Library Grand Re-Opening:  The attorneys and staff at LIS are attending this morning’s reopening ceremony commemorating the California State Library moving back into the newly renovated Stanley Mosk Library and Courts Building .  The library is located across the street from the state’s historic State Capitol.

The renovations took four years of dedicated hard work by master architects, engineers, and technology experts to bring the 1928 neo-classical library building up to the 21st Century.  The building now showcases murals and intricately painted coffered ceilings among other magnificent architectural details .  Last spring, the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, returned to the historic Library and Courts Building.  Finally, the state library will be properly and permanently relocated to its historic site.

This morning’s event is part of a weeklong celebration of the State Library’s return.  If you cannot make it to today’s ribbon-cutting and reopening ceremony, try to attend the special celebration events planned for Wednesday , Thursday and Friday of this week.

Presidential birthdays:  Next Monday, February 17th, Presidents’ Day will be a national holiday celebrating the birthdays of Presidents Washington and Lincoln. Tomorrow, February 12th, will be President Lincoln’s 205th birthday.  February 22nd will be President Washington’s 282nd birthday.  Our offices at LIS, as well as state and federal capital offices across the nation, will be closed that day.  Our online store will be open for business, 24/7, as usual.

Points and Authorities Update:  LIS has recently published our updated California “Extrinsic Aides to Statutory Construction” points and authorities.  This text-searchable document, which will continue to be updated, is available for easy and free access by legal professionals.  We provide two types of California points and authorities free of charge to assist attorneys in the preparation of their judicial notice motions and also to expose them to the rich case law history associated with legislative history materials.

With over 1,000 California court cases, attorneys, legal researchers, law librarians, legal educators, and law students will be able to find support for the introduction of specific legislative history documents ranging from the 1800s to the 2000’s.  LIS’ points and authorities’ documents are unique, extensive, and groundbreaking in the scope of the subject matter and the large number of cases provided.  No one in the legal community has collected and organized this many California cases relating to legislative history research.  Look for other states and federal points and authorities at our website also!
