Please Note: Governor files did not exist prior to 1943.
Originally adopted in 1994 by Proposition 184, the “three strikes law” was revised and passed by the people of California on November 6, 2012. Prop. 36 imposes “life sentences for dangerous criminals like rapists, murderers, and child molesters” through evaluation of prior and current felony offenses(1). The Legislative Analyst estimates a possible annual savings of $90 million upon passage of this measure in addition to court-related state and county expenditures regarding resentencing over the next couple of years(2). With a final ‘Yes’ vote, it’s apparent that Californians didn’t intend to strike out these amendments to the “Three Strikes Law.”
