Assembly Bill 998 (Burke – 1947)

As enacted Assembly Bill 998 amended Insurance Code sections 520 and 10129.  (See Exhibit #1d)  Assembly Bill 998 was introduced on January 27, 1947 by Assembly members Burke and Knight.  (See Exhibit #1a) 

Assembly Bill 998 was assigned to the Assembly Committee on Finance and Insurance and the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions where policy issues raised by the bill were considered.  (See Exhibit #2) Two amendments were made to Assembly Bill 998.  (See Exhibits #1b, #1c and #2)  Subsequent to legislative approval, Governor Earl Warren signed the bill on June 23, 1947 and it was recorded by the Secretary of State as Chapter 904 of the Statutes of 1947.  (See Exhibits #1d and #2)

The Summary Digest of Statutes Enacted prepared by the Legislative Counsel provides the following summary of Assembly Bill 998:

… Amends Secs. 520 and 10129, Ins. C., re transfer of insurance policies.

 

            Provides that individual disability policy for loss of time which is noncancelable and guaranteed renewable for five years is not subject to assignment when policy so provides.
